The legal tyre tread depth in the UK is 1.6mm so the 20 pence coin is a perfect tool to keep in your car. Remember to check your tyres regularly. The simplest way to check your tyres is to our the 20 pence coin standing up thinest edge in between the tyre treat. Essentially, you should see a 20p stood up right onto of your tyre in-between the tyre tread. If you can see the raised part of the coin, its time to get new tyres before you face points, a fine or even worse, an accident. If you can't see the raised edge, take note to how much you cant see and check your tyres on a weekly basis examining for cracks, uneven wear or any metal chords showing.
